1099-K FAQs

Q: Why did I get this email?
A: The American Rescue Plan Act, passed in 2021, changed the requirements for 1099-K reporting. After researching the law, it was determined that Submittable is required to report on payments processed through our platform. As a result, to continue collecting submission income payments, Submittable will need your organization’s tax information. You were listed as a primary or level 5 user of your account and have access to the relevant page on the platform.

Q: My organization is tax-exempt. Do I have to provide this information?
A: Yes, even if your organization is exempt from tax we still need the requested information. The 1099-K is an information filing that may or may not be taxable income. Submittable does not give tax advice.

Q: What if we don’t provide this information?
A: This information is required in order for you to continue collecting funds from submitters. If you do not provide it, you will not receive future submission income payments.

Q: Why are you asking for the information now?
A: The American Rescue Plan Act, passed in 2021, changed the requirements for 1099-K reporting. After researching the law, it was determined that Submittable is required to report payments processed through our platform.

Q: I have multiple accounts in Submittable. Do I need to enter this information in each of them?
A: Yes, we need this information for each account you have with Submittable, even if payments are sent to the same organization.

Q: My organization is located outside the US. Do I need to fill out the form?
A: Yes. Please add information as follows:

  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN): Enter all zeros

  • Taxpayer State / Province: Enter "Alabama"

  • Taxpayer Zip / Postal Code: Enter all zeros

  • Taxpayer Country: Enter your organization's country

When your account is identified as a non-US entity, you will not receive a 1099-K.

Q: I don’t feel comfortable giving out my Tax Identification Number (TIN). How do I know Submittable will keep this information secure?
A: Submittable maintains several security and privacy controls to safeguard the data you entrust to us, all of which are annually validated by a top-tier cybersecurity firm under the SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance frameworks. We use industry-standard encryption algorithms for all data, both at rest and in transit, and we continuously scan our environments for any vulnerability that might impact the security of your data.

Q: Where can I go to enter this information in Submittable?
A: At the top of the page in your account, select More > Account > Payment Info. Please fill in all required fields, then click Update payment information.
