Custom Auto Labels enable you to customize text for auto labels. If you are using the Auto Label feature found in the Field Options area, you can apply an auto label based on the direct text from the reply. Or you can enter a text label that will be generated based on the response.

Auto Labels are available for all forms except Eligibility Forms.

To apply an auto label that uses the field value directly:

  1. Click Field Options at the bottom of the field to which you want to add an Auto Label. Check the Auto Label box. Select Use field value as label.

The label applied will show the same text as the question response. So, for example, if you are asking a question and the response options are simply Yes and No, a corresponding label of Yes or No will be applied to the submission based on the response.

To apply a custom auto label:

  1. Click Field Options at the bottom of your field. Check the Auto Label box.

  2. Select Use custom label as label.

3. An entry box will appear to the right of your response options. Type your desired label over the Add Label... prompt as shown below. In this instance, the yes response will apply a label that says previously published, and the no response will apply a label that says not previously published.

  • Changes made to auto labels after submissions have been received do not have a retroactive effect on labels that were previously applied.

  • Auto labels will not appear in the Labels list found under Configurations until they have been used in a submission.

  • When a form field with an auto label is edited by a submitter, the existing auto label will not automatically update. These submissions' auto labels must be manually updated.

  • If you are using Request Forms in conjunction with auto labels, and you are using Label Criteria, make sure that the criteria and the auto label match. Use the "Use Custom Label" option and make sure it matches the criteria set in the Request Form.
